An Operating System is the low-level software which manages a PC. It controls how the hardware behaves, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between applications, as well as the prioritization of apps in case multiple ones run concurrently. Any program that is installed on a computer system works by sending requests to the OS for different services by using an application program interface (API). The communication with the OS is possible through a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the hosting world, the OS is what commands a server together with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. If there're virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS which runs on the server host OS.
Multiple OS in VPS
Our virtual private server
packages come with three Linux distributions which you can pick from for the Operating System of your new hosting server - Debian, Ubuntu and CentOS. Aside from being totally free, the OSs are extremely stable and safe and the main reason to offer you the three of them is to make sure that you'll be able to run any application that you would like, since different pieces of software may have different requirements regarding the environment they work on. Each one of the three OSs is supported by a vast community of web developers who have developed many hundreds of software packages that you can set up and use on your VPS. Depending on the Operating System which you choose, you will also be able to choose between 3 different Control Panels to take care of your website hosting content. Needless to say, should you decide that you need a different OS, we could always re-install the server with it. As an optional upgrade, we also provide weekly updates of the OS for maximum stability and security.
Multiple OS in Dedicated Hosting
We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server
plans - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're completely free and they won't increase the cost of your new hosting server, but also because they are extremely stable and secure. Each of them is backed up by a large community of web developers, so you'll be given the option to choose from many hundreds of software packages that you can install on your server if the application that you want to use has certain requirements. The Operating System will also determine what web hosting Control Panel you can use as the Control Panels that we offer run on specific OSs only and since we would like to give you as much versatility as possible, we offer several OSs and multiple Control Panels. In case you get a server with a given Operating System, we can change it upon request if it turns out that you need a different one. We can also keep the OS updated weekly as part of the useful Managed Services upgrade.
